Ethiopia Education Programme – in 2007 / 08 we designing a long-term evaluation for this. It was an exciting assignment as the organisation was new to the monitoring and evaluation of social change. SPANA's origins are rooted in the veterinary / scientific discipline, caring for working animals such as donkeys and horses in developing countries.

We were tasked with setting up an M&E programme for SPANA's a brand new education programme for school children in Ethiopia. We took an organisational development approach to this so that our intervention would be sustainable. This means that we developed, in consultation with the client, the framework, tools and systems for M&E, as well as building internal skills for setting objectives, indicators and carrying out M&E activities in future. After the initial set-up phase our involvement reduced as the ongoing evaluation process could increasingly be handled in-house.
